In this new series I hope to share with you some info on how you can be a better drummer – basic skills, exercises, warm-ups, and other knowledge I’ve learned over the last 40 years of playing and teaching.
This first video goes over the principles of holding a stick, finding the balance point, playing a basic stroke, and some simple exercises to help groove your stroke into a consistent motion, . Along the way, I’m not telling the only way, but hopefully giving you enough information to find a way that works for you.
Unlike most drum lesson videos I’m not here to tell you my way is the only way or the best way – it’s a non-lesson! I’ll try and share the “big picture” ideas and skills that you can try for yourself and see if they work for you – I think you’ll have some success!
I’ve had so many comments from my Alesis Nitro Mesh videos about people buying a drum set and starting to learn to play drums, I figured I could try and pass along some ideas to help them speed up the process.
Visit bustingsticks.com for links to any items you see me mention – I buy all my own stuff, so if I have it, it’s because I felt it was good enough to spend my hard earned money on it!
