Beijing 57 High School

Beijing, China · International ensemble ·

Beijing 57 High School represents the scholastic side of international marching music. DCI lists the ensemble in its corps directory as a Beijing-based International participant. It is associated with a school rather than an independently recruited American touring corps. That distinction matters when comparing membership, instrumentation, travel and season structure. The verified English-language record is strongest for its 2025 American championship appearances. DCI profile.

Identity and the limits of the record

The name appears as Beijing 57 High School in official score tables and as High School 57 in DCI’s event reporting. Both refer here to the same Beijing ensemble. It should not be confused with High School Affiliated to BIT, the other Beijing school group at the same 2025 events. DCI described those two visiting ensembles as marching bands. That language is useful: appearing in DCI’s directory does not mean every international entrant uses the same recruitment or instrumentation model as a United States junior drum and bugle corps. Before DCI: a documented international marching-band history

A March 29, 2013 report from the Beijing Municipal Education Commission identifies the school’s Jinfan marching wind band, 北京市第五十七中学金帆行进管乐团, at the January 2013 Pasadena Rose Parade. It describes red-and-white-clad Beijing students interspersed with blue-clad American students in an East–West ensemble performing Jasmine Flower. Related Los Angeles performances included that piece and Men Should Strive for Self-Improvement, combining music with fan dance and martial-arts presentation. This places the school’s international marching activity well before its documented 2025 DCI appearance. Municipal education report (Chinese).

The education commission’s April 25, 2014 results for the seventeenth Beijing Student Arts Festival list Beijing No. 57 among first-prize recipients in the secondary-school marching-wind category. Multiple groups received that award category; it should not be translated as a unique overall championship. Official festival results (Chinese).

At Marion finals, Calgary Stampede Showband led the International group at 76.800 and Calgary Stetson Showband placed second at 66.875. Beijing 57’s 65.300 placed it ahead of Calgary Round-Up Band’s 62.400 and High School Affiliated to BIT’s 60.875. The improvement from 63.900 to 65.300 across the two Marion appearances was 1.400 points. That is a same-week result comparison, not evidence of a long-term competitive trend. Official finals table.

What the trip required

DCI’s report identified Lin Fu as tour manager for the visiting Beijing groups. Fu described the challenge of traveling abroad with school students and the work members invested in preparation, including adjusting from metric field measurements to yards. The account conveys the importance of participation itself: an international tour combines musical preparation with practical adaptation to a different performance environment. It does not establish a permanent United States touring schedule or an annual commitment to return. Tour-manager account.

SoundSport connection

The official SoundSport registered-ensemble list, dated January 23, 2025, includes Beijing 57 High School under China and identifies its category as International. That establishes a documented connection with DCI’s broader participation network. A registry entry is not a complete competition history, an enrollment invitation or confirmation of a future event. Watching and supporting

The best documented starting point for fans is the official DCI event coverage and the three score records above. Those establish where and when the ensemble appeared. A video with a similar translated school name should be checked against its date, uploader and event before being added to a historical archive. A publicly viewable clip does not itself grant permission to reproduce an entire performance. Volunteer, sponsorship and employment opportunities were not independently verified; direct offers through the school’s authorized office rather than an unconfirmed intermediary.
