Atlanta, Georgia · DCI All-Age · Founded 1997 · Profile researched October 21, 2026
Atlanta CV offers a way to perform competitive drum corps while maintaining a life outside a summer tour. Its weekend-centered structure brings together school students, working adults and experienced performers in one brass, percussion and color guard ensemble. The corps belongs to DCI All-Age; the word “world-class” in the organization’s own description expresses its performance ambition and should not be confused with membership in DCI’s junior World Class division. Official overview.
Origins and growth
The organization began as Atlanta CorpsVets in summer 1997 and held its first rehearsal in January 1998. That first ensemble numbered 44. Its debut season included a local DCI exhibition, Atlanta’s televised Fourth of July parade and an appearance at the DCA championships in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Those beginnings explain the corps’ twin identity: a serious competitive organization with roots in regional community performance.
Selected milestones in the corps’ historical archive include fourth in mini-corps in 1999, second in Class A in 2000 and the Class A championship in 2001. It moved to Open Class in 2002. Later achievements included second place and a color guard award in 2017, third in 2018 and another second-place finish with high color guard in 2019. Its 2021 season earned second with high brass and percussion; 2022 brought another second and high percussion. These are DCA-era classifications, distinct from today’s DCI junior classifications. 2026 production: SinSations
Program coordinator Hunter Dugie described a production exploring temptation through emotional experience rather than a literal lesson about morality. An apple supplied the central visual symbol. The theatrical arc moved from an initial equilibrium into resistance, surrender, pleasure, excess and reflection, with the outcome open to interpretation. The announced musical palette combined original writing with material associated with Spirited Away, Don Ellis and Grant Rossi’s Medusa. Functional, transforming props were intended to participate in the action. This was the announced design concept; viewers should distinguish a preseason creative explanation from a complete record of the finished performance. DCI’s production interview.
