Concord, California · DCI Open Class · BD Performing Arts ·
Blue Devils B combines a Northern California educational base with its own championship identity. It shares BD Performing Arts with the A and C corps, but fields a separate show, staff and competitive record. The “B” denotes a distinct program, not a promise that membership automatically advances a performer to the A corps. Program overview.
Origins and identity
The parent organization began in 1957. Its B Corps history records the conversion of the Junior Drum and Bell Corps into a B bugle corps in 1973, alongside the establishment of the younger C ensemble. The distinction between the parent’s founding and this program’s development prevents a common dating error. Today’s program remains associated with Northern California and DCI Open Class. B Corps history.
The organizational archive lists B’s Open Class titles in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2014 and 2016. Those achievements belong to Blue Devils B, separate from A’s World Class championship total. The archive’s list needs to be read together with the later 2026 result, rather than treated as a permanently complete tally. Historical championship list.
2026: a championship comeback
Blue Devils B won the 2026 Open Class championship at Welcome Stadium in Dayton, Ohio, on August 4. The corps scored 81.725, with The Battalion second at 81.500 and Gold third at 80.300. The 0.225 winning margin followed a third-place preliminary finish, 0.600 behind the leader. BDPA’s report framed it as the program’s first such title in ten years. The report also identified Mason Merritt as drum major and Bryce Hull as a fifth-year trumpet member. Dated championship report.
Earlier in the same summer, B won its fourth consecutive Open Class Pacific Championship at the July 12 SoCal Classic in Buena Park. BDPA reported 72.500, ahead of Gold’s 69.700 and Impulse’s 68.100. This was a regional title, separate from the later national championship. Dated Pacific Championship report.
Mise En Place: the 2026 production
The restaurant-inspired show used professional-kitchen preparation as a framework for precision, pressure and collaboration. Its sections followed preparation, opening service, a meal for two, the rush and closing time. The published repertoire included Radiohead’s Everything in Its Right Place, Ibrahim Maalouf’s Fly With Me, Jeff Beal’s Alone in a Crowd, Come What May from Moulin Rouge, The Seatbelts’ Rush and Semisonic’s Closing Time. Moving tables contributed to the restaurant setting. Official season archive.
