From SoundSport to Open Class

After three seasons in SoundSport, Zephyrus was approved as an Open Class affiliate for 2025. DCI’s announcement describes the value of those early seasons in developing the institutional knowledge needed to operate a corps. Performances in 2024 included Broken Arrow and the Southwestern Championship in San Antonio. Affiliate status allowed Open Class participation while the membership evaluation continued.

2026 Neverlost: a fantasy expedition

Neverlost followed a fictional expedition toward a lost city of Z, with the broader idea that cultural identity survives through people, memory, and shared practices. DCI’s interview identifies Percy Fawcett’s expedition story as an inspiration, while the field production itself was an original fantasy.

The four movements were “Launch,” “Shelter,” “Lost in the Jungle,” and “Ancient Melodies.” Musical references included Steps Ahead’s Senegal Calling, With You I’m Born Again, original chase music, and Toto’s Africa. Maps and compasses helped communicate navigation. For a viewer, compare the rhythmic character of the opener with the later recognizable song and observe how those changes clarify the journey.
