History & identity

The original Velvet Knights developed a reputation for entertaining audiences through comedy, recognizable visual surprises, and energetic musical presentation. DCI’s retrospective of 1992 examines this approach through Magical Mystery Tour, Part 3.

The corps first reached DCI Finals in 1984. Its 1992 tenth-place finish was its final top-twelve appearance, and the original organization completed four more competitive seasons before disbanding after 1996.

What makes this corps distinctive

The 1992 show followed earlier Magical Mystery Tour productions and moved among a series of international musical settings. Its opera-critic shark became a memorable example of the corps’ willingness to make comedy part of a field production. The performance invites viewers to watch both the musical ensemble and the deliberately staged interruptions.
