Troopers at a glance

Troopers is a World Class drum and bugle corps based in Casper, Wyoming. Founded in 1957 by Jim Jones, it is part of DCI’s founding generation and is closely associated with the Long Blue Line, crossed sabers, and a Western visual identity. The competitive “A” corps is distinct from the organization’s Legacy Corps and other programs. Official alumni history; Organization.

Roots and continuity

The corps’ educational materials identify Jones as a Casper building contractor who founded an activity for local youth. Its alumni history offers a route into the older seasons and the people who shaped them. A long-running identity can persist through different music, uniforms, and instructors; it should not be mistaken for an unchanged production style. 2025 member manual and historical introduction.

The 2022 return to finals

With VorAcious, Troopers returned to DCI finals in 2022 for the first time since 2009. DCI’s retrospective traces the late-season competitive surge that earned the position. The interval matters: a renewed finals run represented years of organizational and educational development, not simply an isolated audience moment. DCI return-to-finals retrospective.

DCI’s advance feature describes the production’s musical and dramatic direction and the use of original percussion writing. Compare that preseason intent with an authorized final performance to see how a show can develop during a summer. 2022 production introduction.

2023 To Lasso the Sun

DCI’s 2023 design interview connects the production’s large thematic story to an updated Troopers identity. Music associated with Ennio Morricone and Western imagery helped the corps develop a recognizable environment while exploring a more contemporary production language. The interesting design question is how a familiar character and setting can support new movement and musical ideas. 2023 design interview.

Member care and public accountability

The board published a January 2021 update concerning complaints from the 2017–2019 period. It is part of the public record and should be read directly for the organization’s account. Neither a later successful show nor the existence of a policy page independently resolves questions about how a historical concern was handled. Board’s 2021 update.
