Its first World Class finals appearance came in 2016. Official program history.
2016 Drum Corpse Bride
The Academy’s first finals production finished eleventh with 86.100. Inspired by Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride, the show connected theatrical characters, accessible music, and the corps’ established taste for whimsical storytelling. DCI’s retrospective tracks the summer’s progression, including the San Antonio victory over a returning finalist and the later move ahead of Madison Scouts. General effect and percussion were particular competitive strengths.
The corps sustained character work beyond the judged production; DCI describes the bride tossing a bouquet from the podium after the finals performance. That detail is useful when studying how an ensemble’s show-world can extend into the audience’s experience without changing the underlying competitive rules. Official DCI retrospective.
A separate DCI Halloween feature revisits the production’s playful appeal. Pair an authorized full-show view with the retrospective to observe how props, costumes, music, and staging establish the tone. A short character clip alone cannot convey the complete production. DCI production feature.
