Seymour, Connecticut • DCI All-Age • Origins in 1932 • The Pride of Connecticut
The Connecticut Hurricanes connect a Depression-era veterans’ ensemble with modern All-Age field competition. Their green, black, and white identity, lightning-bolt imagery, and “Walk Proud” tradition sit alongside an educational role for both developing players and adults continuing in the activity. Origins and enduring traditions
The corps traces its beginnings to Derby’s John H. Collins American Legion Post Fife, Drum & Bugle Corps in 1932. It entered drum-and-bugle competition in 1955 and became a charter member of DCA in 1963. The present organization is based in Seymour and draws performers from New England and New York. Its official identity page associates the corps with The Magnificent Seven, the street beat Downfall of Paris, the Horse Walk, and a corps song sung to They Call the Wind Maria. The alumni archive lists DCA championships in 1967, 1969, and 1981; DCA Open Class titles in 2022 and 2023; and the 1967 American Legion national title. Other listed milestones include National Dream victories in 1967–1969, the 1964 World Open, Northeastern Circuit titles in 1962–1963, and the 1958 Yankee Circuit. Keep those event names attached to the dates: the titles belong to different circuits and historical class systems. Alumni championship record
Recent competitive and artistic record
DCI’s 2025 championship account places Hurricanes sixth overall in the All-Age final. Its report describes General Effect as an advantage over seventh-place White Sabers, while White Sabers ranked ahead in Total Music. That distinction illustrates why an overall placement does not mean every caption finished in the same order. 2025 championship report
The 2025 production, The Black Parade, used the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse as an abstract four-act framework. DCI’s interview with program coordinator Dan Schack identifies My Chemical Romance’s Welcome to the Black Parade, Audiomachine’s The Grotto, Two Steps from Hell’s Fallout, and Evanescence’s Hi-Lo. Alternative-rock and heavy-metal rhythm supplied an organizing musical idea, with conquest, war, famine, and death supplying dramatic stages. This is a description of that dated production, rather than the forthcoming season. 2025 production preview
