Memphis, Tennessee • DCI Open Class • Modern ensemble debuted 2023
A new organization with an older local connection
DCI’s May 2025 profile records the current corps’ SoundSport debut in 2023, entry into reclassification evaluation ahead of 2024, and approval as an Open Class affiliate for 2025. That sequence is different from claiming uninterrupted activity since the original Memphis Blues Brass Band. The article connects the modern organization to the earlier “MB3” through executive director Keith Hall, one of its first drum majors. DCI reclassification history
The present corps and its championship ambition
When exploring the corps through video, use the performance date and event name to distinguish a rehearsal clip, a promotional montage, a regional appearance, and a championship run. Comparing the first and last available performance of a season can make the growth of a young ensemble more audible than a placement alone. Confirm show titles and repertoire through the corps’ own announcements before adding them to a personal archive.
DCI reports fourth place at 77.600 in the 2026 Open Class Finals, marking a notable championship debut. DCI championship report.
Governance, families, and reporting
For a young performer, clarify supervision, medical support, medication and allergy handling, weather decisions, and parent communication. Ask who takes an emergency call during rehearsal and on the road, and how a member can raise a concern outside the immediate instructional chain. These operational answers should be obtained directly for the actual camp and tour.
