Princeton, New Jersey • DCI All-Age • Founded 1981 • Six-time DCA champion
Origins and competitive identity
The corps was formed in 1981 and entered DCA competition in 1982. Its official base is Princeton, New Jersey, with members drawn from across the East Coast. The organization identifies itself as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and a six-time DCA world champion. Its 2025 home-show program places the founding in Keyport; historical references to other New Jersey locations should be understood in the context of the organization’s changing locations rather than substituted for its present base. In a 2026 DCI interview, Jim Dugan credits founder Mike Olszewski with establishing the corps. The name became associated with the “Bush Push,” a reputation for arriving strongest near the end of the summer. Dugan says the corps’ first outright contest victory was the 1986 DCA championship Finals. Michael Cesario’s 1984 uniform design introduced the piano-key sash, a black-and-white motif that continues to connect present productions to the corps’ earlier jazz identity. DCI history and traditions.
The modern competitive record includes bronze at the inaugural DCI All-Age championship in 2024. DCI’s March 2026 feature records another third place in 2025, with a 94.250 final score. These are historical results, not a substitute for the latest official championship recap. DCI corps profile; DCI history and traditions.
Recent productions and what to watch for
The 2025 production, Where Do We Begin?, used Cody Fry’s Caves, Oliver Davis’s Air Waltz, Stevie Wonder’s You and I in a Jacob Collier arrangement, and Bucimis associated with The Swingles. Those selections place contemporary song, dance rhythm, and concert writing in a single field program. 2025 official home-show program.
For 2026, Hypnotic developed from the uniform’s black-and-white pattern. Program coordinator Lauryn Heller Griffin described a progression through induction, a trance, the deep mind, and awakening. DCI’s production preview identifies Wax Tailor, Danny Elfman, Steve Reich, and I Put a Spell on You among the musical material. Spirals, changing patterns, and pendulum-like movement connect the visual design to the hypnosis concept. 2026 Hypnotic production.
The 2026 championship awards include the Lou Storck Memorial Trophy for Best Showmanship for Chris McCrum of Bushwackers. A viewer can use that recognition as another entry point into the performance, alongside the full production rather than treating an individual feature as the entire show. 2026 championship awards.
The corps beyond competition
Bushwackers connections reach television as well as stadiums. DCI’s 2025 reporting describes Dan Piro, Ember Hesse, and other performers affiliated with the corps appearing in the second-season finale of Apple TV+’s Severance. They performed as part of a staged marching ensemble in the show’s fictional office environment. This was an alumni-connected screen opportunity, rather than a claim that an entire competitive corps season appeared on television. Alumni in Severance.
