TUMB: 2021 VirTUal Mardi Gras

2 min read

Welcome to VirTUal Mardi Gras!

Celebrating 100 years, the contemporary Tulane University Marching Band embraces its role as a descendent of the greatest New Orleans band traditions and carries the art form forward as a catalyst for Green Wave spirit! The TUMB is the largest student performing group at Tulane University, with membership representing every academic field of study. To deliver an exciting Carnival performance in the absence of 2021 Mardi Gras Parades the TUMB, clad in its Carnival best, recorded its traditional Mardi Gras repertoire for a festive “VirTUal” performance that will live on the airwaves forever!

This performance is the capstone of our 2021 VirTUal Mardi Gras WaveStarter fundraising campaign. The TUMB aims to raise $20,000 from our Green Wave community to purchase equipment to keep up with the quality of excellence for which we strive. We finished out the campaign by blowing past our goal for a total of $27,976!

The TUMB observes strict protocols to virtually eliminate the risk of the spread of coronavirus in its rehearsals. Utilizing masks, special instrument bell covers to contain aerosol spread from instruments, and a socially-distanced standstill formation along with rigorous hygiene and facility occupation protocols, the TUMB has not had a single case of COVID-19 spread linked to its in-person rehearsals.
