Orpheus: The Original Rock Star – Drum Corps Show

1 min read

Orpheus: The Original Rock Star – a show for drum & bugle corps by Luke Taylor.

This show tells the story of Orpheus in the Underworld, with story points written onto the score. Orpheus was the ancient Greek equivalent of a rock star, being widely renowned for his lyre playing. The Opening movement portrays the wedding of Orpheus and Eurydice. Shortly after this, he is out for a stroll when Eurydice is bitten by a snake and dies. Understandably, Orpheus is overcome by grief and sings of his sadness. He then decides to do something, heading into the Fire and Flames of the underworld to confront Hades and rescue his lover. Hades agrees, however there is one condition – Orpheus cannot look at Eurydice until they have exited the underworld. However, just as Orpheus reaches the exit, he has his doubts about Hades and turns to see if Eurydice is actually following. They lock eyes for a brief second before she is whipped away forever…
