Reading Buccaneers at a glance

Founding and early championships

The corps formed in 1957 as a parade ensemble for former junior-corps members and veterans of World War II and Korea. Field competition began in 1958. Three consecutive VFW championships followed in 1960, 1961, and 1962. As a charter DCA member, Reading won the inaugural DCA championship in 1965. These origins explain why the corps’ historical place cannot be reduced to its results in the much newer DCI All-Age division. Buccaneers historical account.

From DCA to DCI All-Age

Reading won the first DCI All-Age World Class championship in 2024. The inaugural event carried forward World, Open, and A class distinctions from the preceding all-age structure; Cincinnati Tradition and Govenaires won the other divisions. The result represents both an individual championship and a transition in how all-age drum corps reaches audiences during DCI championship week. DCI’s 2024 championship account.

In 2025, Reading again led the World Class divisional event. That year the divisional contest occurred Friday, with a subsequent overall All-Age finals event. Readers comparing results must identify which competition is being cited instead of conflating a Friday class title with Saturday’s overall result. 2025 divisional championship report.

Reading won the 2026 overall DCI All-Age championship with 96.200, its third consecutive overall DCI All-Age title. 2026 championship report.
