History & identity

The Oakland Crusaders formed for 1975 through the merger of De La Salle Oaklands and the Etobicoke Crusaders. Their new organization placed sixth at DCI Finals in its first season, then eighth in 1976.

De La Salle’s history predates that merger and includes a place among DCI’s founding member corps. Keeping the predecessor and merged organization connected—but separately dated—makes the Canadian contribution to DCI easier to understand.

What makes this corps distinctive

The corps’ 1975 presentation included a particularly visible role for drum major Joel Alleyne, whose expressive conducting and performance style became part of the audience experience. DCI’s historical spotlight also discusses its musical selections and the competitive strength of the new merger.
