2nd Annual Big Bend Marching Band Showcase – All-Band Performance

2 min read

Saturday, October 9, 2021 – Gene Cox Stadium, Tallahassee, FL

To conclude the 2nd Annual Big Bend Marching Band Showcase, all six participating bands took the field at the end of the night to perform three pieces that they received in advance. The field show they marched was learned in two hours starting at 12:30 PM.

The mission of the Big Bend Marching Band Showcase is to provide marching band students in the Big Bend area a chance to socialize and interact with each other, to provide a resource for bands in more rural areas, to allow students in the area to watch complete marching shows without the unnecessary distraction of trophies or placements, and to allow the community an opportunity to celebrate the success of hard-working students who provide a positive impact to the community.

Bands were judged but were not given a rating (i.e., poor, fair, good, excellent, superior). This was not a competition. Band directors met with the judges after their band’s field show to receive comments and talk with the judges. The goal? Provide bands with constructive feedback to help them prepare for the Marching Music Performance Assessment (MPA) on Saturday, October 23, 2021 (also at Gene Cox Stadium).

This year, we also introduced an in-stands component. Between bands’ field shows, bands had an option to perform a few of their in-stands tunes from the visitor’s stands so that other bands could see and hear them without the distraction of a football game. The best part? Seeing other bands engage with a the band that was performing through cheering, dancing, and singing.

As this year’s event coordinator, that was the best part of the whole event—seeing and hearing all band students support and build each other up.
