2021 Summer Concert Kilpatrick

2 min read

On Thursday, July 22, the Balmoral School of Piping & Drumming presented a concert featuring our 2021 summer guest instructors. We were incredibly lucky to have Jim Kilpatrick with us this year for the launch of our new drumming program.

Jim Kilpatrick MBE has won a record 19 World Drum Corps and World Pipe Band Championships with Shotts & Dyjkehead Caledonia Pipe Band, 15 of these as leading drummer. This includes winning the World Drum Corps Championship 11 years in a row, 1988-1998. As a solo drummer, Jim smashed every record in the books, winning the RSPBA World Solo Drumming Championships 16 times. He is the current holder of the Champion of Champions title, a title he has won three times. He is the only leading drummer ever to win the ‘Grand Slam’ all five major drum corps championships in one season, 1991). This run coincided with him winning 10 major drumming championships in a row over three seasons, 1990-1992. In 2004, Jim was awarded the MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) for his services to music by Her Majesty The Queen. He was inducted into the Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame in 2009, making him the first pipe band drummer to receive such recognition.
